At USCRobotics, we have always believed that robotics is far more than a competition—it is a powerful platform for developing future engineers, innovators, and community leaders. Today, we are honored to share an exciting milestone that demonstrates how student leadership and advocacy can create meaningful change far beyond the classroom.
This achievement did not happen overnight. Earlier this season, during the FIRST Tech Challenge DECODE season, Team TeraBridges from Upper St. Clair High School and USCRobotics launched a statewide robotics advocacy initiative to raise awareness of the transformative impact of robotics education. As part of this effort, the team welcomed elected officials to the USCRobotics facility, where students showcased their engineering projects, shared their experiences in FIRST Robotics, and discussed the importance of expanding access to high-quality STEM opportunities. We were honored to host Senator Devlin Robinson, Representative Natalie Mihalek, Representative Arvind Venkat, Representative Marc Anderson each of whom took time to meet with our students, learn firsthand about the program’s impact, and discuss ways to strengthen robotics education throughout Pennsylvania.
These conversations laid the foundation for a broader bipartisan effort. Inspired by the students’ vision and advocacy, Pennsylvania State Senator Devlin Robinson (R–37) of Western Pennsylvania partnered with Pennsylvania State Senator Nick Saval (D–1) of Eastern Pennsylvania to champion Senate Bill 1419 (SB 1419) – the Pennsylvania Statewide Robotics Program Act, legislation that will establish a statewide robotics program and expand access to robotics education for students across the Commonwealth. The bill is expected to be formally introduced this September.

In recognition of this initiative, Senator Devlin Robinson and his team plan to introduce Senate Bill 1419 (SB 1419) and host a bipartisan press conference with statewide media coverage celebrating the impact of robotics education, Team TeraBridges, and USCRobotics. The event will highlight the students’ journey, recognize their contributions to advancing STEM opportunities, and underscore the importance of expanding access to robotics education for students across Pennsylvania.
Over the past year, TeraBridges has demonstrated what is possible when students are empowered through engineering and service. The team captured the Overall Tournament Championship at the FIRST Tech Challenge Western Edge Premier Event, competing against 88 of the world’s top robotics teams, while also earning the 1st Place Connect Award. Earlier this year, the students received the Grand Prize in the Global Innovation Challenge for designing an innovative assistive mobility solution that helps young children with mobility challenges gain greater independence. Beyond competition, the team has used its experiences to advocate for broader access to robotics opportunities across Pennsylvania.

FIRST PA’s continued dedication to growing and strengthening robotics programs across the Commonwealth has played an important role in creating opportunities for students to learn, innovate, and collaborate through STEM.
As we look ahead to the introduction of SB 1419, we remain committed to expanding access to robotics, empowering the next generation of innovators, and ensuring that more students across Pennsylvania have the opportunity to experience the impact of STEM education.
