Carnegie Robotics Visit

On November 3rd, our whole team got the chance to visit Carnegie Robotics, a company that specializes in manufacturing products and systems that can reason their surroundings to deliver autonomy. In this visit, we were able to learn and explore the world of automating physical solutions to make them more effective.

We met with multiple different engineers. These engineers took time out of their day to show all of us how they solve real world problems through engineering. The experience was extremely interesting, as we saw various skills that we use in FTC being applied constantly inside Carnegie Robotics, especially software. The software engineering principles were really demonstrated in the various cameras that Carnegie robotics makes. Overall, touring the facility was an amazing time for us.

After spending some time looking through the different areas of Carnegie Robotics, engineer Anthony Todora spent some time with us to learn about our Decode season robot. We had a great time discussing and learning with Anthony Todora, and our biggest takeaway from his advice was by taking away the moving roof, we could reduce the time of our testing.

All together, we left the visit with a better understanding of where different forms of engineering are applied in the real world, and the process of engineering in action with the non-stop ideas, iterations, and testing. Additionally, we left with many lessons and advice not only for our robot and season, but beyond that, especially because so many of us are aspiring engineers, so this visit was extremely valuable. A massive thank you to the founder of Carnegie Robotics, John Bares, Anthony Todora, and everyone else at Carnegie Robotics!
